Chocolate Inclusion had the opportunity to conduct a 1.5-hour sharing session at Lighthouse School during their staff contact time, where we introduced a range of assistive devices and inclusive workflow concepts developed across different use cases for persons with disabilities.
The session explored how assistive technology, when thoughtfully designed, can be meaningfully integrated into SPED environments to support:
- Safety and accessibility
- Independent living skills
- Structured participation in work-related tasks
- Greater student confidence and autonomy
Beyond showcasing assistive devices, we also shared how inclusive systems go beyond individual tools. By redesigning workflows, adapting environments, and simplifying task structures, schools can create more supportive and sustainable learning ecosystems for students with varying support needs.
We also introduced our upcoming hydroponics programme, which is designed as a structured, hands-on learning environment where students can participate through adapted tasks, assistive devices, and collaborative workflows. The programme aims to support consistent participation while progressively building independence, responsibility, and vocational-related skills in an accessible and engaging manner.
One of the most meaningful aspects of the session was the shared conversation around moving beyond accessibility as a concept, and towards practical, sustainable systems that empower students to participate more confidently in real-world environments.
We are grateful to Lighthouse School for the opportunity to share, learn, and explore possibilities together. We look forward to continuing this journey and developing more inclusive programmes and initiatives collaboratively.
